The good news is that we live in one of the safest neighborhoods in Dallas. The bad news is we can’t sit back and take it for granted. One of the reasons we are one of the safest is the fact that we know our neighbors and have large lots without a lot of privacy fences for burglars to hide behind. Our Volunteers In Patrol (VIP) program is underway which provides those extra set(s) of eyes patrolling our neighborhood.

We need to report suspicious activity as soon as we see it and the way you report it to 911 is very important. Be sure to get as many details as you can such as: suspect description, race, sex, clothing etc., make and color of the vehicle, license number if possible and anything unusual about the vehicle (damage, missing or damaged parts). If you feel threatened or someone is trying to break in while you’re at home tell the 911 operator that and stay on the phone with them until the cavalry arrives. If you have any questions or would like to discuss security issues please don’t hesitate to contact me.

How Can I Prevent Crime? These proven crime prevention measures will go a long way toward keeping you from becoming a crime victim:

  • Keep your home’s doors, garage, and windows shut and locked at all times.
  • Improve your outdoor lighting.
  • Situational Awareness - be aware of your surroundings.
  • Don’t leave lawn equipment or toys outside or in an open garage.
  • Keep car doors locked and windows shut while driving and when parked.
  • Don’t keep valuables in plain view inside your car.
  • Check behind when turning into your neighborhood or apartment complex and again before turning into your alley or driveway. If someone is in close proximity, drive past your home to a well lit and populated area to call 911.
  • Take vacation precautions: Ask someone to pick up mail and newspaper daily. Arrange to have your lawn mowed or leaves raked. Even better, have someone stay in your home while you are away, if this is possible.

You can now go online and look at the active police calls for service throughout the city of Dallas. Simply go to www.dallaspolice.net and select the "Active Calls" link on the web page. It includes the type of call, priority, patrol division, unit assigned, and the incident number. Sensitive calls won't be included to protect the victims
